Llusern Scientific
Enhancing Point-of-Care Diagnostics with a Digital Solution
Cardiff-based Llusern Scientific, a molecular diagnostics company, developed a portable testing platform for point of care use, allowing rapid diagnostic results outside traditional labs. However, the current analyser uses a simple LED interface that displays results in a basic format, requiring users to manually record and interpret data—a process that is time consuming, prone to human error and lacks scalability.
Llusern Scientific approached CEMET with the idea of developing an application that could automate data capture, improve accuracy, and support future expansion, including new test types and integration with online services.
What Did We Do?
Llusern recognised the need for a digital interface to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of their diagnostic platform. They approached CEMET to help develop a digital application that could read, interpret, and store test results from their analyser, reducing the potential for error and streamlining the process for end users. Beyond immediate improvements, Llusern also wanted the application to be flexible enough to support future expansions, such as additional test types and integration with cloud-based services.
How Did We Do It?
CEMET collaborated closely with Llusern to build a proof-of-concept application, creating a digital interface with the following features:
Automated Data Capture and Interpretation: The app connects to the analyser, capturing outputs and digitally recording them, which eliminates manual data entry and reduces the risk of transcription errors.
User-Friendly Results Display: Results are presented within the app in a clear, intuitive format, making it easy for end users to interpret them in real time with minimal training.
Scalable Architecture: Designed with flexibility in mind, the application’s modular structure supports the addition of new test types and compatibility with future online services, paving the way for cloud integration, remote monitoring, and long-term storage.
The proof of concept has already shown significant value by improving user experience, reducing human error, and establishing a scalable framework for Llusern’s diagnostic platform. Llusern now plans to build on this foundation, expanding the platform’s capabilities to include additional diagnostic tests, support for cloud connectivity, and integration with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
This digital transformation will enable Llusern to offer a more comprehensive, efficient point of care diagnostic solution, positioning them at the forefront of innovation in healthcare diagnostics.
